An obtuse angle is where 2 walls come together at an angle other than 90 degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bay windows, conservatories and chimney breasts. Cutting a scribe joint is not the easiest thing to do. It takes more time to mark out and cut than a simple mitre. So a lot of people will avoid doing one. I even find professional joiners who don&#8217;t do them. But if a mitre joint is used  for an internal corner then the joint will always open up as the wood dries out and shrinks back.                                                                                                     So a scribe joint is the correct method to use.                                           <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cutting a skirting board obtuse internal corner scribe is similar to cutting a scribe for a 90 degree corner. However it requires a lot more cutting back. This is so that it will fit back to the wall. I find this angle using a simple sliding bevel. An angle finder could be used but these can be expensive. And in 20 years of being a woodworker I have never used one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"451\" height=\"291\" src=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/sliding-bevel-min.jpg\" alt=\"skirting-board-finding-angles-01\" class=\"wp-image-252\" srcset=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/sliding-bevel-min.jpg 451w, http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/sliding-bevel-min-300x194.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 451px) 100vw, 451px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The angle of the wall can now be transferred onto the skirting board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/sliding-bevel-2-min.jpg\" alt=\"skirting-board-finding-angles-02\" class=\"wp-image-253\" width=\"454\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/sliding-bevel-2-min.jpg 520w, http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/sliding-bevel-2-min-300x190.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 454px) 100vw, 454px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sliding bevel can now be used to set the angle of the mitre saw. If you haven&#8217;t got a mitre saw or it won&#8217;t tip to the angle you need then you will have to cut it with a panel saw. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/skirting-05-min.jpg\" alt=\"setting-saw-angle\" class=\"wp-image-254\" width=\"474\" height=\"379\" srcset=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/skirting-05-min.jpg 568w, http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/skirting-05-min-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> In order to find the profile that needs to be cut out for the other piece of skirting board to fit over the piece I have just fitted. I have to divide the angle of the walls in half. Cutting the skirting board at this angle will reveal the profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The way I divide the wall angle is as follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Draw the angle of the wall on a piece of board. <\/li><li>Draw parallel lines to each wall line.<\/li><li>Where the lines intersect, join these 2 points with a line.<\/li><li>Set the sliding bevel to this new line and that has divided the angle in half.                                                    <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/angle3.jpg\" alt=\"dividing-skirting-board-angle\" class=\"wp-image-256\" width=\"466\" height=\"305\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This new angle I transferred from the piece of board to the mitre saw again using the sliding bevel. I cut the angle onto the skirting board and this cut revealed the profile that needs to be cut away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"473\" height=\"297\" src=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/profile.jpg\" alt=\"skirting-board-angle\" class=\"wp-image-257\" srcset=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/profile.jpg 473w, http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/profile-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 473px) 100vw, 473px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Because of the obtuse angle, the scribe cut needs to be back cut more than the angle of the wall. So I have drawn the angle of the wall on the top and bottom of the skirting board so I know how much I need to cut back. Again I used the sliding bevel to find the angle of the wall and used it to draw the angle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"328\" src=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/back-cut.jpg\" alt=\"skirting-board-finding-angles-03\" class=\"wp-image-258\" srcset=\"http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/back-cut.jpg 445w, http:\/\/spendtimesavemoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/back-cut-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now I have to cut the profile. For the straight cut it is best to used a fine toothed panel saw because it is designed to cut straight and the fine teeth will leave a nice finish. For the shaped cut around the moulding it is best to use a coping saw, which is designed to cut complex shapes. The benefit to back cutting more than you need to is, it&#8217;s only the very front edge of the profile that touches therefore there is less chance of any remaining wood fouling the joint stopping it from closing up completely.
